Learning English everyday!

I am always trying to master the English Language! Learning English requires practice. Today Internet offers so many resources. When I was in school I just had my books, my teachers and american movies and cartoons! I stopped learning English when I left highschool. But I learned a lot outside of class, there are different sources to improve English knowledge. I remember I subscribed some English magazines for one year or two. I also read some literature in English language, a few of the classics and poetry. I watched many English series in my youth. Many of it were from BBC. I also watched lots of americans movies. Today I still am an avid movie goer. That's how I expanded my vocabulary. English and American songs were also a big help. Whenever I bought a record I would explore the lyrics. Today is so easy to find songs lyrics, there are internet sites dedicated to it! The internet is a fantastic resource. Lately I've been founding these lists. It help a lot. It's an easy and fun way to refresh vocabulary! I guess I will make a new Pinterest board soon!

#Raise your voice - Blog Action Day 2015

Today is Blog Action Day!

What is Blog Action Day 2015?

#BAD15, #Raiseyourvoice

"No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world", an actor said. He made us laugh many times, it was Robin Williams. He was wise.

#Raise Your Voice is the theme to write about. Many of us can write freely but a large percentage of people can't. People like you and me and not only the professionls of the written word. Expressing opinions can promote the change. It's dangerous. That's why Governments and institutions fear it! And some fear it more than others.

This year we watched many people suffering or being emprisoned ou even killed because they dare to raise their voice and refused censorship. All these names made headlines - Raif Badawi, a Saudi blogger, Yassine Ayari, a France-based Tunisian national, Mohammad Reza Pourshajari from Iran, the Vietnamese blogger Ta Phong Tan - and many more that are missing from this short list.Rafael Marques de Morais is an Angolan journalist and human rights activist that faced nine charges of defamation after publishing on human rights abuses committed during diamond mining operations in Angola. The list goes on.

These people are journalists, writers, thinkers, activists, bloggers. It happens all over the world. Books, movies, articles, posts are banned. Voices are silenced. The authors are threatened, tortured, emprisoned, depported, killed. But these people resist and struggle to keep their stories alive. We shoud respect them, we should pay attention not only on Blog Action Day.

There's this site called Threatened Voices. I urge you to take a look, you can also  contribute to it. It maps bloggers that have have been threatened, arrested or killed for speaking out online and to draw attention to the campaigns to free them. Iran, China, and Egypt are on the top of the list.

We all remember Charlie Hebdo shooting early this year. It looks like words are a dangerous matter but then drawings are dangerous too. One thing we should all agree is that no one should be killed for writting or drawing about a theme.

Because I was so shocked with Hebdo's faith I bring his name and another cartoonists names to this Blog Action Day post today too.

I invite you to watch a french documentary called Fini de rire by Olivier Malvoisin e Donatien Huet. Check also the site Cartooning for Peace, created by Plantu, french cartoonist. This site was made to make people "unlearn about intolerance" as well as the site Fini de rire - Une cartographie de la liberté d'expression des dessinateurs de presse à travers le monde.

This 52 minutes documentary, or rather webdocumentary, is a mapping of the freedom of expression in 2006, the year when the documentary was made in reaction to the first conflict about Mohammed cartoons and religious representation.

A dozen cartoons first appeared in the Danish newspaper Jyllands Posten in September 2005. The most famous depicted the Prophet Mohammad with a turban in bomb format. In Islam, any depiction of Muhammad is forbidden, or at least I got that impression from that date. The director would ask public apology and confess to be ashamed of what he had done, fearing that no one else dared to publish cartoons of the prophet. The cartoons were republished in Norway. After the French newspaper France Soir - whose editor was dismissed by Egyptian boss - and two of the most important newspapers of Germany, the conservative Die Welt, which also placed them on its website, and the left-wing daily Die Tageszeitung (taz) . Countries like Saudi Arabia or Libya closed diplomatic missions in Denmark, the Arab countries called for punishment of cartoonists to the Danish Government, but this distanced himself invoking the independence of the press and freedom of expression, condemning those who burned Danish flags in the Arab world .

"Si vous voulez un baromètre de la liberté d’expression et comprendre les tabous dans un pays, il faut aller voir les dessinateurs de presse". Plantu.

Cartoonists all over the world find their voice silenced many times. They do not write, they use a pencil to draw. Portuguese Cristina Sampaio is a Portuguese cartoonist represented in the site Fini de rire. She gives her testimony saying that in Portugal the media are conditioned by big business and therefore cartoonists face clear economic censorship. It is a documentary worth seeing.

These are the names of the cartoonists that also give their testimony in Fini de rire. Explore the links to know a bit about each one!

Jeff Danziger - American, " The design is a language, shows the reality as it is."
Plantu - French, " The cartoonists see things that others do not see . "

Rainer Hachfeld - German, "The caricature can be used in the ideological battle".

Khalil Abu Arafeh - Palestinian, "A good design has more impact than an article."

Nadia Khiari - Tunisian, " The politicians use religion to control the newspapers. The political taboo gave way to religious taboo . If I can not publish in the newspaper, I use the walls and the social network".

Kianoush Ramezani - Iraqi, " The soul of the cartoon is to criticyze. In Iran to be a cartoonist is a danger in itself. "

Pierre Kroll - Belgian cartoonist

Avi Katz - American living in Israel

Michel Kichka - Belgian, living in Israel

Daryl Cagle - American

Ann Telnaes - Swedish, living in USA. "After September 11 it was difficult to criticize the government and its actions . When the cartoonist afraid to draw, have a problem , their work is not to be shy. "

Aurel - French

I apologise for any inconvenience...

Hello Zazzlers, followers and friends!

It's time I apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused you! And by this I mean the mess my blogs have been for the last months.

Last Sunday we had some bad weather and quite out of the blue I decided it was time to make some cleaning on my blogs. Maybe because I had an extra cleaning in the house the week before! I have a few blogs so one decision like this one is never a pleasant decision. But everything is done now and I am happy enough with the result.

As you know I have two blogs I use to promote Zazzle adventures, one is No Boring White and the other is A Portuguese Love. The first one was more or less ok, just a few dead links and it was it. But A Portuguese Love was a real mess! I don't understand how that happened entirely. To be honest blogging hasn't been in my list of priorities. So I kind of ignore it for half and year now. Life isn't perfect! I found lots of dead links, lots!! And lots of videos that have been removed! And empty posts, you name it! Even in such poor condition it still attracts 600-1000 visitors, I really don't understand how.

I created these blogs for promotion but I wanted it to be useful to my visitors and not a silly and empty experience! I struggle with my English, I know that my English is less than perfect, I make many mistakes even if I am always trying to fix it. Imagine how I felt when I found the mess my blog was.

Things are ok now. The blogs were cleanned. Many posts had to be refreshed or supressed!I believe that I should have deleted some more posts, I guess I'll do it next round!

One more thing. I also posted most Zazzle collective product showcases to Pinterest. I use Pinterest a lot but not for promotion or for the earning of referrals. This will be kind of an experiment. I will let you know how it goes. If it works it will be a win-win situation for me and for the people I've been promoting on these blogs.

I invite you to support and follow that Pinterest board in particular - Gift ideas from No Boring White.  Usually when I promote a store or a designer I send a message via the store. If you're one of those, you're most likely being promoted on that board even if I promoted your store two years ago. I'm curious about the result of this Pinterest pinning. We shall see how it goes!

Thanksgiving and Gifts with Autumn colors!

Be Thankful Script Orange Thanksgiving Pillow

Browse for Pillows at Zazzle

Hello followers, Zazzle designers and friends!

This is all about autumn colors and Thanksgiving. But mostly about the great colors and the beautiful shapes of the leaves. The changing of their color is responsable for this great show that nature provides each autumn. This season of the year offers a great range of color and artists and designers knows it! Since ever they have been inspired by it.

Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday in USA. My idea is that this celebration was an old festival to give thanks for the harvest started by European pilgrims that arrived USA to settle. This holiday is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. Many american families join around the table to share food. I remember Thanksgiving from Traines, Planes and automobiles, a very funny movie with Steve Martin I watched when I was in my teens. So I am aware about the turkey, the stuffing and pumpkin pie. We don't celebrate Thanksgiving here! For me autumn is sad because it means the summer is over. But I enjoy a few things about it- the persimmons, the roasted chestnuts, the good movies that start to show on theatres,  the fact that I restart my long walks...

Leaf decorations and autumn colors are wonderful as you will see as you browse more than 100 Zazzle products I picked for you. These are most for the house decoration - pillows, plates, taberunner, blankets, mugs, doormats. But I also included some iPhone6 cases, funny postcards and binders for Thanksgiving recipes. Enjoy!
